Craigslist is a great place to look for free moving boxes. People move and then list their old boxes for free. Ask any of your friends/family that work in manufacturing plants. Grocery stores, businesses and gas stations put theirs outside by the dumpsters if you don't mind pulling them out of the trash.

Most retail businesses will give you boxes for free if you request them in advance. If you walk in and request them they may have already been compacted. Offices can also be a good resource as the paper that they use for copy machine comes in great boxes for moving.
