Shopping for car stereo receivers is no different than shopping for anything else. I suggest starting with local retailers of car audio equipment, and compare those prices to popular internet stores. If you can live with a used model, local classified ads are a good way to go. Don't forget to compare that model with other similar ones!

Sony probably makes the best in dash reviever on the planet. It can be a real hassle to hook up, especially if you have an American or European car. They are easy to hook up on Toyota and Honda's though, because they share common wiring. I always see them at Best Buy and they are on sale quite a bit.

Check with your local retailers like K-Mart and Wal-Mart who have a diver automotive department. Sometimes even EBay will have decent new and used models up for sale or auction. Depending on if you don't mind a used one that is. But Sony-Ion-Dash receivers are a dime a dozen and fairly cheap anywhere.
