If your car has a carburettor your choke can be malfunctioning or your idle-jetting can be off. If weather conditions are foggy or otherwise humid or cold, you may need to use carburettor alcohol. If your car has direct injection it may be a malfunctioning sensor and you may need to visit an authorized garage.

If it's carburetor than it's probably a stuck choke. If it's fuel injected than your IAC valve isn't working or you have a problem with fueling.

Sounds like you may need a simple tune up to keep juices flowing from the starter/alternator to the engine. Usually a simple fix, although problem may also be related to fuel line clog or other sensor (Commonly the O2) or electrical short that is not allowing engine to respond.

This problem is typicall the IAC or Idle Air Control Valve not working properly. However, you cannot rule out that it may be the EGR or Exhaust Gas Recycling valve as well. The last possible problem may be the fuel pressure from the sending unit is not adequate when cold.
