Different kinds have different pruning instructions; research the kind you have. Dead flowers and blooms can be removed at any time. When cutting, cut back to healthy buds or above the first largest leaves. If overgrown, you can safely cut the bush to the ground.

i trim back hydrangeas 3days before. on the day my exams completed ,i trimmed it because it grown very big and making ugly look
