Cool fall day is apt for transplanting especially early morning or late afternoon. Frequent rain will keep the soil moist,so winter can be preferable, which will help the root to repair them from any cause of damage while moving. Transplanting in spring hot weather will lead to wilt of blooms and chances for drop off.

Transplant azaleas in cool weather, preferably in fall, during the coolest part of the day. Prepare spot ahead of time and fill with water, letting it soak in soil. Azaleas root near the surface; do not transplant too deep or transplant close to shallow-rooting trees. After transplanting water thoroughly.

Azaleas are very hardy plants, but they should be transplanted in the early spring in order to avoid stressing them out too much.

The best time to transplant is spring. It's necessary, that it gets enough water after the transplantation and only little fertilizer for the first time. Make sure that the plant doesn't have stress, then it won't grow.
