The Atari 2600 was the most famous Atari console, and it came out in 1977 which is 33 years ago. Before that Atari had released a pong cabinet in 1972.

The original one's came at the 80s on the atari 2600. One of the best sellers were pac man which became the solo reason to own a atari.2600 wasnt the only one then 5400 and 7200 atari's came.

If you are talking about the Atari 2600, I have heard that the first games came out in the late 70s - 1976 or 1977. There may have been some earlier versions available overseas, but as for US release, I would say the late 70s is probably the best answer.

They have been around a long time indeed.The Atari company was founded in 1972.The first Atari game was pong and that was released in 1975.Next to come along was probably the most well known Atari project the Atari 2600 home gaming console released in 1977.

Your Dad is right, the orginal Atari console came out in 1972 that was about 37 years ago, because it was late in the year right before Christmas.
