The difference is that a DO is a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine and an MD is a Doctor of Medicine. DO's are seen as more "compassionate".

A DO is a doctor of Osteopathic medicine and an MD is a doctor of medicine. Both have their own schools of medicine and both cover the vast majority of the same material. They are equivalent in virtually every respect and both serve at all levels and positions.

While evaluating a person's health, a DO views the whole body as a complex network because any disease affects the whole body. On the other hand, an MD evaluates the disease in relation to its effect on only certain parts of the body.
