If you're smart & have an American vehicle, you're going to see around 3k as pretty much standard, unless you're really smart & want a high performance engine.
Well it all depends on the displacement and the power you want. A basic 350 can be bought for around $1,700(minus intake/carb) whereas a larger engines can run $6000+.
