The fireplace should be the focus of the furniture arrangement. Frame the area around the fireplace with your furniture. A large sofa parallel and facing the fireplace is a great start. Next, anchor 2 parlor chairs on either side of the couch. An ottoman with a meal tray on top will serve as a perfect coffee table.

I would place two sofas or a sofa and two chairs at angles forming a triangle in front of the fireplace.
