I have a 2001 F-150 5 speed and I had that problem and I replaced the slave cylinder and it is good to go now. Check the hydraulic clutch and make sure it is full with brake fluid. Also the slave cylinder is in the transmission so you have to drop the transmission.

Your synchronizers are probably worn out, replacing them isn't very hard but its very time consuming so you will probably have to take it to someone

It could be the result of a safety feature. Make sure that your brake lights are working. If they're not, have them fixed. It could also be caused by something such as interlock failure or a defective brake pedal. Try turning the key to the unlock position, then shift to neutral, and then it should go into gear.
