Tics are muscle spasms and really have nothing to do with the eye, but rather the muscles that attach to the eye or the muscles around the eye socket that will cause the surrounding skin to twitch.

If it is associated to only one eye and is accompanied with tunnel vision or numbness, it could be the sign of an oncoming stroke.

An eye tic or twitch is commonly caused by stress, fatigue, and lack of sleep. It can also be caused by poor nutrition, caffeine, alcohol, or allergies. Some neurological disorders (Tourette Syndrome, Parkinson's) can also cause a tic, among other symptoms.

Eye tics are sudden, repetitive movements of eye muscle groups. They are harmless and will last for a period of a few hours up to a few days. Tics are common when a person feels stressed, tired. It may be because of lack of sleep or side effects of some medicines.
