Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina were considered the Southern Colonies of Britain's North American empire, which to a certain extent also included Maryland and Virginia (though these are sometimes referred to as the Chesapeake Colonies).

The Southern colonies in British America were Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. The first, Virginia, was founded in 1607 when colonists arrived in Jamestown.
