The 1920s saw the return of a laissez-faire approach to government. That was only one of many reasons for the Great Depression. Americans had become a consumer society funded by credit. Industries were booming but unregulated. The majority of wealth was held by very few. These factors among others created a house of cards that would eventually fall.

One of the major political changes was Prohibition, the Constitutional Amendment to outlaw alcohol. The League of Nations, the forerunner of the United Nations, was created, though it failed utterly and completely in preventing World War 2. The relaxed financial standards of the 1920s led to irrational lending that contributed to the crash of 1929.

Political changes in the 1920s included womens right to vote and Prohibition of alcohol. Too much money and no backing with real assets caused the financial crisis known as the Great Depression.

Political changes in the 1920s included women's right to vote and Prohibition of alcohol. What caused the stock market crisis of 1929 and eventually the Great Depression was the burst of a financial bubble from low interest rates and very loose lending standards. Too much money and no backing with real assets caused the financial crisis.
