Jazz, big band and swing were all popular in the 20's. Duke Ellington was a popular Jazz musician. Popular songs include "Crazy Blues" by Mamie Smith, "Dardanella" by Ben Selvin's Novelty Orchestra,"Love Nest" by John Steel and "Whispering" by Paul Whiteman's Orchestra. Ragtime was also very big in the 1920's.

In the 1920's, the choices of music genres to listen to was much more limited than it is today. Swing was just beginning to catch on in the larger cities across the country, as well as big band numbers and "old classics"

Some popular titles of the time: Shine on Harvest Moon, In the Good Old Summertime, When you wore a tulip and Won't You Come Home Bill Baily were very popular in the 20s and are great for parties. Try doing them as a sing along, print out the words and have fun!
