Azrael is the cat in the Smurfs. He is owned and much maligned by Gargamel, the sorcerer villain of the Smurfs. The choice of the name Azrael is interesting, as it is traditionally the angel of death in Islamic thought.
Gargomel's cat name is Azeral. He was an orange cat that always tried to catch the smurfs but would always fumble and never catch them. He wasnt very much help with helping Gargomel.
Actually the name of the cat was Azrael while Gargamel was the human he lived and put up with. In some cultures the name Azrael is also the name of the archangel of death which is a bit interesting considering he and Gargamel's plans for capturing the smurfs were always thwarted.
