You should purchase hamster food, vitamin drops, and straw for the bottom of the cage. A wheel for exercise is important as well.

One thing that you need is the appropriate bedding. Cedar bedding is better because it doesn't absorb wastes and contaminates that can make the hamster sick. Also investing is a cage that has multiple tiers with lot's to do is good. You also want to make sure that the door locks really secure because they will let themselves out.
