Some of these include flowering dogwood, eastern redbud,japanese maple, azalea, hollies, gardenia, Japanese pittosporum, camellia, and heavenly bamboo. Prune shrubs in January or February while they are dormant. This is the best time to transfer them, too.

Juniper will thrive in the Carolinas. They will remain green all winter and are tolerant to salty ambient air (depending how far east you are).
