What should I tell a dentist when I am referred for tooth pain?

You should be able to point to the exact spot of the pain. You should also be able to describe the type of pain (sharp, throbbing, ache, etc. ).

Tell the dentist where the pain is, it is constant, intermittent, is it sensitive to hot and cold? How long have you been in pain, did you lose a filling. When is the last time you saw a dentist, when is the last time you had full mouth x-rays?

You should tell the dentist where the pain is in your mouth. You should also tell him if it hurts you all the time or if the pain only comes when you eat something hot or sweet or when you bite down on something. Also make sure to tell the dentist if you have any swellings in your mouth.

You should tell them the location of the pain in your mouth. When does it hurt the most, such as when drinking or eating cold of hot beverages, foods. Even if it is bothering when you are brushing. If you are noticing bleeding also.
