Basic math and reading skills are important. The test contains 10 sections ranging from math, science and reading comprehension to knowledge of mechanics, electronics and automotive repair. Scores determine basic qualifications for enlistment.

The ASVAB is much like other tests such as the SAT or ACT, but will also have an additional part that will test knowledge with things such as how motors work, basic enginnering questions, and also a hand/eye co-ordination type test.

Prior to taking the ASVAB, you should review basic high school level math, science, and english. Make sure that you know how to quickly understand analogies and recognize number sequences as these are abundant on the ASVAB. In all, the ASVAB is similar to the ACT, but at a slightly lower level.
