A few things, first you're going to need some basic and select tools. A pair of sturdy pliers, some wire strippers, a sauntering gun in most cases, and a pair of safety glasses and rubber insulated gloves to lessen the risk of electrocution. I would recommend you consult the instruction manual for any ac repairs jobs.

Caution make sure that all refrigerant has been recycled or reclaimed before changing compressor. You need a wiring diagram of the specific air conditioning unit that your working on. Try searching online for the diagram. You may need model & serial numbers of the unit. Always turn off the power at the A/C disconnect before connecting/disconnecting any wiring.

You should first know how to read a schematic. It will be on the inside cover of the door. If there is no schematic, contact the manufacturer.
