This is a letter stating in no uncertain terms that you want an individual to keep away from you. PLEASE know that not all states recognize this, and not all states have defined domestic violence laws, and like a restraining order, this is not a sure protection against a violent offender. If you are in danger, get out, get help.

This kind of letter is written to a stalker, telling that person to stay away from you, your home, your work, your school. The police should receive a copy.

A defiant trespass letter is when someone has been asked to stay off of someone's property in writing. This letter should be hand delivered to the person being asked to stay away and there needs to be a third party witness present. Your letter can also be mailed by certified mail with a return receipt requested.
