You can expect to experience a fun and colorful festival with lots going on and lots of people everywhere. You will definitely want to experience the well-known carnival parade (also called samba parade), as well as numerous galas and luxurious balls happening throughout the city. Expect lots of music, dancing and fantastic costumes.

Carnival in Rio is, in a word, crazy. It's the epitome of debauchery and over indulgence. The crowds are massive and can be dangerous. Pickpockets are everywhere, and armed robbery of tourists is very common. Stay in the well traveled areas as advised by your hotel. It may be tempting to wander off into unfamiliar neighborhoods, but it isn't wise.

Carnival in Rio is best described as BANANAS! It's far crazier than Mardi Gras in New Orleans. The crowds are enormous, costumes outrageous and you'll see things you've never, ever seen in your life. Crime is rampant. Local thugs prey on tourists, so be careful.

Expect long lines, lots of noise, and lots of obnoxious people. If you can, stay in a resort-type hotel, not something downtown. You will hit burn out very quickly otherwise.

Rio de Janeiro Carnaval is an unique experience for everyone! In the first place, the Sambodrome- where you can admire the sensual samba of the dancers or even try it yourself. In second place- the beaches of Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon, that are the soul of parties in bikini, and where, besides having fun, you can also get a great tan.

Brazilian Carnaval is the biggest party in the world, and Rio De Janeiro is the biggest and the best. You will see huge crowds wearing spectacular costumes, hear original samba music written especially for this year and feel an excitement that has no comparison elsewhere.

Expect a free flow of alcohol, a strong police presence, light clothing requirements, and many pick pockets. This is a major tourism event, and petty crime increases because of this.
