Wasps are attracted towards moisture in the grass. There are various ways to keep wasps away from garden. There are some bee scent sprays which protect grass from bees. You can place trap for wasps when they become nuisance. Also you can catch wasps in standard traps as wasps are lure by nature.

Evenings they go back to their nests. Wait till dark and make hot, sudsy water and pour into hole and cover. You may have to repeat this procedure. A gas-soaked rag in jar placed over nest is another choice. Insecticides provide another option but be careful with pets and children.

Most wasps will fly away within a few minutes from a location. Then tend to nest in nooks and crannies rather than staying on the ground.
