Your water is the seal around the baby and if it breaks bacteria from the outside world can get in and so this is generally an indication that you need help, and quickly. Sometimes the baby is ready to be born, and sometimes you will need help to remain pregnant until the baby is ready.

You should call your doctor and go to the hospital. When your water breaks, it means that the baby will be coming soon. You should preregister with the hospital long before it comes time for your water to break.

Once your water breaks, giving birth is in the very near future. You should contact either the Doctor or Midwife right away. This should be done reguardless of your due date.

If your water breaks, you should call your doctor immediately! Most doctors will have you go to the hospital right then because once your water breaks, your womb is no longer a sterile environment and it's best for you to deliver fairly soon so your baby isn't exposed to any germs.

Most doctors will want you to call right away after your water breaks, since its a sign that labor is imminent. The amniotic sac, or water, is a sterile environment for the baby to live in, and once its gone, the baby will have to come out.
