Take a picture of the damage and see if there were any witnesses. If there were no witnesses and the damage is extensive, call the police to come out and check out what happened. If there was little damage you might be better off just doing some simple self-repair.

In the United States, the most practical action to take would be first to call the police to report a "hit and run", the police will fill out and provide you a copy of an accident report with which you can file a claim with your insurance company.

You need to call the police and get them to do a report on it. They probably will never find out who did it but it is good to have a record. Then call your insurance company. They will cover the damages but your rates may go up.

Stay at the location of the accident and call the police to file a report. You can still contact them if you've already left the scene of the accident, but it's best to do it while there. Take pictures of the damage. Contact your car insurer.

Look around to local buildings and look for any external cameras. Often buildings, stores, parking lots, etc. have security cameras that may have captured on video what happened to your vehicle. From there you can use the information to pursue legal action.
