Begin by carefully cleaning any debris out of the wound using salty water. Test to see if all of your toes can wiggle - if not seek medical attention. If you have not been for a tetanus injection within the last five years, go and get one.

Thoroughly clean and disinfect the area. Apply an antibiotic ointment such as Neosporin and, if the skin is broken, cover it with a bandage. If you have not had an inoculation against tetanus within the last ten years and have stepped on a rusty nail, you need to get a tetanus shot immediately.

You should immediately wash out the puncture wound with soap and water, then follow with an alcohol rinse. If you have not had a tetnus shot within the last 5 years, you should go to your doctor, urgent care facility or emergency room to be treated. They will wash the wound and require you to have a tetnus shot.

This is not Medical advice: After stepping on a nail remove the nail if neccesary. Squeeze the access blood out of the wound. Use a anti-bacterical soap would be best. Make sure that you are current with Tetnus shots.
