They prefer soil that is fertile and constantly moist, yet never soggy. Soggy soil will cause root rot in Begonias. A mixture of 3-4 parts peat moss, 1 part manure, 1-2 parts perlite, 1 part vermiculite, and 1 part slow realease fertilizer.

The primary consideration in choosing soil for tuberous begonias is that it be well drained. The soil should be kept moist but never allowed to become soggy. They prefer a rich soil so the addition of compost or decomposed organic matter is recommended. You will have brilliant blooms and avoid rotting tubers by providing the best possible soil.

Tuberous begonias need a well drained soil that has good drainage. If you are using a peat based potting soil, sharp sand should be added to increase drainage.

The soil should be well drained and contain humus. Do not use a "planting mix" for the Tuberous Begonia but make sure it is "potting soil".
