A matte finish is often a good choice - a matte finish will disguise more wall imperfections than a glossier finish would. The key thing to remember about matte finishes is that they are usually much harder to clean than eggshell or gloss finishes. So, if you expect the walls to get dirty regularly, then choose eggshell or gloss.

It is really a preference of the owner. The paint store will call the finish a "sheen". A good sheen would be flat or satin.

Most interior spaces are painted with a flat or semi-gloss paint. Flat paint will provide a very matte look and is what most people are accustomed to seeing in a bedroom.
