What other some other causes of sore nipples, because I am not pregnant?

This could be a hormonal imbalance other than pregnancy. Your bra may fit too tightly or loosely causging chaffing or a contact dermatitis.

If they are overly sensitive and they are given a lot of attention, after awhile they can get sore. If it is too cold your nipples can get sore from being too hard. Extreme excitement in a sexual way can cause your nipples to get hard and also sore. Though if it persists, you can see a doctor about it.

Hormonal changes before, during and after a woman's cycle can cause the breast and nipple tenderness. It's very common if when starting or coming off birth control as well.

During post ovulation period, progesterone is secreted, which causes water retention in the body. Storing of water in breast tissue causes it to become stretched and leads to sore nipples.
