Linguistically, Africa is very diverse. Continent-wide, Africans speak over 2,000 languages, in six major families, including Afro-Asiatic, which includes Arabic, Amharic and Berber, Niger-Congo, which includes the Bantu languages and the major languages of West Africa (e. g. Yoruba), the the Austronesian languages, spoken in Madagascar, which are related to Indonesian. Also, Indo-European languages, including English, French and Afrikaans, are spoken.

Having over 2000 distinct languages makes it difficult to discern. Classified ones are English, Spanish, French/Creole, Portuguese, Arabic, Berber, Swahili, Hausa, Oromo, Zulu, Amharic, Shoma, Yoruba, Igbo, Bambara, Fula, Afrikaans, Lingala, Chichewa, Xhosa, Kongo, Twi, Gbe, Wolof, Gikuyu, More, Umbundu, Sotho,Tswana, Kirundi, Luhya, Tigrinya, Kinyarwanda, Kanuri, Tshiluba, Ibibio and Malagasy.
