The kind of oil that a Honda 400ex takes is 20w50. This type of oil is used on engine operating at high temperatures. When changing the oil on a Honda 400ex you will need 2.6 quarts and the proper tools.

10w 40 weight. it dosent really matter what brand of oil as long as its for higher reving engines id recomend syntechic oil. Syntechic oil seems to be fa better for wear protecting and engine longevity. Personally i like red line or royal purple , how ever it is very pricey.

Honda recommends using GN4 motorcycle blend 10w40 Honda oil only. Yet many people prefer using 20-w50 synthetic oils for ATVs or motercycles. A good synthetic oil may cost more but it may well keep your Honda 400ex running.

Well a honda 400ex will be using the atv oil. You can purchase this at any major car garage or repair store.
