Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma is known for having shale mineral deposits about 7k to 8k feet below the surface. Shale is typically comprised of quartz and calcite. It is also known to have shallow deposits of natural gas and liquid petroleum which is a very valuable commodity. Many oil companies would like to lease the mineral rights for this area.

There really aren't a lot of valuable minerals in Pottawatomie County: its 45 or so "mines" are for sand and gravel. There are, however, gypsum "roses", a favorite of collectors.
