According to several different online biographies, Billy the Kid used a Colt single-action. 44 caliber pistol and a Colt double-action. 41 caliber pistol. His favorite gun, however, was his Winchester 1873 rifle, one of the most popular weapons of its day. There is only one known photograph of Billy the Kid and in it he is posing with his trusty Winchester.

The only picture that exist of Billy shows him holding a lever-action winchester rifle. Rumor says he favored the Colt Thunderer for his pistol. As with most outlaws, he used other weapons of opportunity, like the 10 guage whitneyville shotgun he got his hands on while escaping from a jail.
