People with hypothyroidism are just as eligible to take birth control as people without are. They don't have an affect on each other.

It is usually safe and has no side affects. They may both cause weight gain and that would be one of the only problems. Of course you will want to check with your doctoe about this first.

The two do have some interaction as birth control pills will affect the level of thyroid binding globin in your blood. You will need to have your doctor monitor your TSH levels after starting the birth control pills to make sure that your synthroid pills do not need to be ajusted.

if you have a thyroid problem you cannot take birth control pills as thyroid has something to do with the body's metabolism. I also have a thyroid problem and my OB do not advise me to take one.

If you are planing for birth contol by oral contraceptive then don't worry. Thyroid function is not usually affected by oral contraceptives. only thing is being a hypothyroid you have tendancy for weight gain and oral contraceptive medication also cause weightgain so take appropriate advise from doctor before starting these birth control tablets.
