Answer by  MsGreenGlory (50)

This phenomenon occurs when a patient's blood pressure is measured consistently higher in a clinic environoment rather than at home. It may be caused by anxiety of seeing white coats, which builds with subsequent visits over time. It can be avoided by taking blood pressure pills prior to the visit, reducing consumption of water, and acting as relaxed as possible.

It is hypertension, or elevated blood pressure, caused by the anxiety of being in a doctor's office or hospital or clinical setting, that is usually higher than at normal times or when being at home.

It is when a patient shows all the signs of having hypertension while in a doctor's office setting but when they are in any other setting their blood pressure is normal.
