Wagner's "Parsifal" is loosely based on "Parzival", a 13th century epic poem by Wolfram von Eschenbach. The play concerns the the journey and tribulations of Percival, one of the Knights of the Round Table, and his quest to find the Holy Grail. It is a bit more light-hearted than Wagner's other works.

Parsifal is a three-act opera based on Sir Percival's quest for the Holy Grail. Similar to his other works, Wagner explored the conflict between good and evil through the use of allusion and symbolism. Christian religious symbols and references are used throughout the opera, namely, the Holy Grail, the Sacred Spear, and references to the Redeemer.
