It means that you chose to be severe. You probably do deserve it because you choose it therefore you wanted it. This should not be a question about whether you deserve it or not if you choose to do it. This should be a question about why did you choose to do so.

An agreement between employer and employee that releases the employee for a different kind of compensation. It is used in times when the economy is poor and the employee is not given a notice of being fired.

"Voluntary severance" means a personal choice to end an employment opportunity. In my opinion, one deserves "voluntary severance" when they are no longer making the grade or helping out.
