The San Francisco mint was established in 1854. It minted silver and gold coins - no pennies or nickels, but half dimes, dimes, quarters, half dollar, dollar, and gold from $1 to $20. A comnom Barber S dime could be worth only $5. Any double eagle ($20) is worth well over $1,000. Few dates (example 1878) are rare.

Values for San Francisco coins from the 1800's depend on the type of coin and the condition. At auction, a coin could go for $270-4200. For private collections, and insurance purposes, values can range between $300-7500. For the most up to date and dependable values, for all collectible coins, refer to the PCGS price guide (Professional Coin Grading Service).

This will depend on the year, the quality, and the coin's face value. For example, a silver dollar minted in San Francisco in the 1800s is from $65-165.
