elvis died of complications due to prescription drug abuse. He began using drugs in his early days when he toured continuously and under less than perfect conditions. Prescription amphetemines allowed him to function on little sleep, while barbituates brought him down so he could sleep. this particular combination of drug use and abuse is very hard on the heart.
