Spondylosis is basically arthritis along the spinal column. You cannot prevent it. Treatments includes pain medication, weight loss if your dog is overweight and supplements such as Chondroitin or Omega-3 fatty acids.
Chiropractic care is helpful for spondylosis as well as hydrotherapy. Check with your vet. They should be able to refer you to a vet or even a chiropractor that can treat animals. Your dog still needs regular exercise but try and keep him from running and jumping.
