Cats have selective memories and only uses the memory for what it considers important. A cat will be able to remember a person the longer it is with them. The short term memory in cats has been proven to be approximately 10 minutes.

Cats, like other mid-order mammals, have a life-long spanning memory. While a cat may not be able to think or reason like a higher order mammal, it can remember lessons from its early life until death.

Well all I can tell you is that I have had cats my whole life and their memory span is very short one second they can be chasing something then all the sudden lay down and sleep so I believe they have a very short memory span.
