Really there are a lot of variables. I would look online for a guide on how to do a custom setup.

The only network configuration a PS2 can use is a broadband connection, as stated on the boxes for many PS2 games. The best setup would be to use a wired broadband connection to link you PS@ directly to your router.

The Playstation 2 connects to networks via a broadband internet connection and has a guided set up that it's user can run to connect to a network via ethernet.

The easiest way to set correct network settings for the PS2 is to edit your existing Network Configuration file or create a new Network Configuration file using the automatic settings.

It will depend on the type of network you have(wired/wireless). You should do some searching online for a detailed walk through for setting your type of network connection up.
