The Novel 1632 by Eric Flint is about a small town in West Virginia that is displaced from all time and place. Somehow they are transported from the present time to 1632 in Central Germany. Throughout the book they fight beyond war, language barriers, and many of the problems during that era.

Its kinda like an alternate history novel. It is the first in a series of novels actually. A modern day American town is sent back in time to Germany during the 30 years war. The book is about the towns people coping with life transported through time and space.

Science fiction and alternate-history buffs will enjoy Eric Flint's Ring of Fire series, which begins with 1632, the story of West Virginians who find themselves trapped in 15th-century Germany.

This speculative book asks - and describes - what would happen if history did not progress to the point we understand it now. In fact, time and history are not linear in Flint's book. Much like Twain's "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court," Flint plays with history and characters.
