What is the normal price range for a tattoo?

Answer by  critesb1 (224)

Small tattoo without color goes for anywhere from $40 to $100. Small tattoo with color anywhere from $60 to $120. Medium ones without color($60 to $180). Large one ($120 to $400). All so depends on who you go to. If you know the person doing the tattoo, or someone that can gave you a good price.

The normal price range for a tattoo depends on the design, the size of the design, the colors you want, and the tattoo artist. A place with a good reputation for design work and sterile instruments will charge more. You can expect to pay between fifty and three hundred dollars depending on what you want done.

My sister got her first tattoo for around $180 and it was about a Medium-Large size with color but she went to a guy she knew so it may be more for you. But in the end it really depends on quality, cleaness, and size.

Normally, a tattoo artist will charge an hourly rate of $150-$250 per hour. For smaller tattoos that might take less than an hour, you will generally be charged anywhere from $50-$140. Other factors to consider is the amount of detail in the design and amount of color in the tattoo.

When you go to a licensed professional tattooist expect to pay at least a minimum of $40.00. That is usually considered a set up fee and won't get you anything big. Every shop charges different. Some by the hour, some by size, and the most fair way is by detail. Maximum price is the skies limit!

Pricing varies according to colors used and intricacy of design. Tattooer's usually charge by the hour and not by the piece. Be sure to check out different shops and don't just go to the first place. I have two 4 inch stars on my shoulders that cost 140$.
