The Froot Loops toucan is named Toucan Sam, and has been its mascot since the cereal was first released in 1963. Sam's beak colors have changed over the years, and at one time corresponded to the different colors found in Froot Loops cereal. Sam was originally voiced by famous voice performer Mel Blanc.

The name of the fruit loops toucan is Toucan Sam. He was invented in the 1970's as a blue toucan with a striped beak to represent the fruit loops logo. Originally, the beak was colored in with two pink stripes in the 70's but they chose to use the colors of the cereal.
