As of July 2009, Federal minimum has been raised to $7.25 per hour. No state can offer less than this amount. However, the amount is less for positions that earn tips. I think it is around $4.25 an hour for them but I am not sure. In September every year, the new Minimum Wages are determined.

The federal minimum wage has just been increased to $7.25. If you boss is telling you anything less than this, he is wrong.

In July of 2009, the minimum wage was raised to $7.25 per hour. However some states do have a higher minimum wage. There are also special circumstances in many states if the job includes tips. Be sure to check with the U.S. Department of Labor to check for your specific state's wage minimums.

The Federal Minimum wage is $7.25. Your state may have a higher one but your employer must pay you at least the Federal minimum wage of $7.25, unless your industry is known to pay in a different manner, like a waiter/waitress.
