Federal law sets the age at 14. There are a lot of restrictions regarding the type of work and hours that are allowed.

Minors need to be 14 years of age to obtain a work permit. During summer, if school isn't in session, 16 and 17 yrs old don't need to obtain a permit. Breaks, hours worked, work while school is in session and type of work is regulated under Ohio law.
