Answer by  lovelife (998)

Horsepower is the amount of work done over time and one horsepower is equivalent to 33,000 foot pound per minute or 550 foot pounds per second (or 746 watts). It basically means how many horses would it take to equal the same amount of pulling power. Hope that helps a little!

It means that is how well the horses running the truck were rated. If it is lower than four stars, then don't even think about it. You could just get the truck and replace the horses, though.

The Chevy Silverado has 4 engine options to choose from, with the HP rating a bit differant on each model. The most popular engine, a 5.4 liter, delivers 24mpg highway.

Horsepower rating on any type of motor driven vehicle is simply a means of measuring the power the engine is capable of producing at a given RPM.

Horsepower is derived from the power of 33,000 foot pound per minutes or 550 foot pounds per second as demonstrated by most fighter jets. The Chevy Silverado has 4 engine options and the HP rating is different per each model. 5.4 liter, delivers 24mpg on the highway seems to be the most popular.

Horsepower is a rating of 33,000 foot-pounds per minute, and isn't linked solely to the Silverado. Most Silverados have a horsepower rating between 250-350 horsepower.

The horse power rating on a Chevy Silverado, strangely means the same exact thing as it means on every Chevy truck and car, every Ford, every Chrysler, and even Ferraris. It means how much horse power there is you idiot!

Horsepower is the most common unit of measuring engine power output here in the US. It is the amount of "work" it can do over a period of time.

195 hp @ 4600 rpm. However this is the average for a Chevy Silverado 1400 4WD.More specific is needed for information you are trying to obtain for engine capacities.
