The history of English football dates back to medieval times. William Fitzstephen documented the game in 1170 on a visit to London. English footbal came before American football.

Competitive soccer leagues started blossoming through Europe in the 1920s whereas American football NFl started in 1967 with only much smaller leagues before that.

English football is actually know as soccer here in the United States. They have been playing English football for centries.
