What is the history of basketball at North Carolina?

Well from what I think they haven't always been a powerhouse for the sport. They just had really good players in the last 15 years or so and that is why they are doing good.

The University of Carolina's mens basketball team (known as the Tar Heels), have won five national titles: 1957, 1982, 1993, 2005, and 2009. Once coach Dean Smith took over the realm, is when the program really took off. North Carolina has produced the likes of Michael Jordan, James Worthy, Eric Montross and Rasheed Wallace.
